Rene L. Timmerman age 102 of Balaton, MN died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, November 14, 2008 at St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Tracy, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a rosary at 4:00 PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Tracy. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
Rene Louis Timmerman was born May 19, 1906 to Christian and Celesta (Schyvinch) Timmerman in Moline, IL. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended St Maryâs Catholic School in Moline. As a young man he went to work as a clerk at the John Deere plant and also the Daniel Boone Woolen Works in Moline.
On January 30, 1935 Rene married Alida Maeyaert in Ghent, MN. They made their first home on a farm near Ghent. They then moved to a farm near St Leo, MN before moving to a farm near Balaton, MN in 1950 where he continued to farm until his retirement. In the years following, he lived in an apartment in Walnut Grove, MN before moving back into Balaton where he lived until 2004.
He was a member of St Maryâs Catholic Church in Tracy, MN. He enjoyed playing cards, Rolle Bolle, bingo, horseshoes, and reading of religious and historical books.
In January of 2004 Rene became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton where he died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the age of 102.
Rene is survived by four daughters, Clara Timmerman of Woodbury, MN, Martha (Arlon) Buchholz of Hendricks, MN, Marian Stickler of Grand Junction, CO and Alice (Donald) Zeug of Lucan, MN; four sons, Fred (Carol) Timmerman, George (Maxine) Timmerman, Charles (Gloria) Timmerman and Francis (Mary) Timmerman all of Balaton, MN; twenty five grandchildren; forty four great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
His wife, Alida, one infant son, one grandson, three granddaughters, two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
