Richard Edgar Karbo age 61 of Balaton, MN died Sunday, August 3, 2008. Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Victory Christian Church in Balaton, MN. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Victory Christian Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Russell City Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.
Richard Edgar Karbo was born May 28, 1947 to Maurice and Agnes (Johnson) Karbo in Tracy, MN, Lyon County. He was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Russell, MN and attended Russell Public School.
On June 24, 1964 Dick entered the U. S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He reached the rank of SR(E1) and served until he was released on a medical discharge. He returned to the Russell area and worked with his parents in the Family Café in Russell.
In 1973 he worked with the Balaton Police Department and then became Chief of Police in Walnut Grove, MN, before he joined the Pipestone County Sheriffâs Department, as a Deputy Sheriff. He then moved to California for a short time before returning to Walnut Grove as Chief of Police again in 1980. Dick then worked for K&K Concrete in Marshall, MN and in 1985 he moved to Tyler, TX, then California before returning to Marshall, MN in 1992.
In February of 2007 he moved into Balaton, MN, where he helped out his two sonsâ business. Dick enjoyed hunting, antiques, story telling and pen & ink drawing, which he won awards with while living in Texas.
On Sunday, August 3, 2008 Dick died at his home in Balaton at the age of 61.
Dick is survived by his two sons, Richard (Kari) Karbo and Chad (Sara) Karbo, both of Balaton, MN; four grandchildren, Tiffani, Sidney, Hannah and Ava; one brother, Robert Karbo of Minneapolis, MN; and many friends.
His parents preceded him in death.
