Richard Gregory (âDickâ) Marron was born on June 25, 1931 in Newcastle, Nebraska, to Henry Phillip Marron and Leone June (Calvert) Marron. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Catholic Church. Dick grew up on the family farm outside of Newcastle, Nebraska, the eldest of 13 children. He graduated in 1949 from Newcastle High School. In 1952, he was drafted by the army and served in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he lived in Minneapolis and began learning the trade of tile-layer. On September 28th, 1956, he married Carol Elaine Aamoth in Minneapolis, MN. After their daughter Kathleen Anne was born in 1957, they moved to Marshall MN, in 1958, where Dick founded his own tile company, Marron Tile & Carpet. The couple made their home in Marshall for 49 years and had two sons: Raymond Michael and Thomas Mark. After Dickâs retirement in 2000, he and Carol spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Dick was very active throughout his life and loved flying (he restored and flew two vintage aircraft in the 70s), dancing, fishing, gardening, hunting, spending time at the lake, âfixing thingsâ, telling stories, golfing (or at least his version of it), spending winters in Arizona (and Mexico), talking with his many friends and family members on his computer and cell phone, riding his motorcycle and walking his dog. Dickâs greatest joys in life were his wife, children, his 8 grandkids, 1 great grandson and a large extended family and friends.
Dick died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 31, 2007 at North Memorial Residential Hospice, after a 7 month battle to recover from serious injuries incurred in a motorcycle accident. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Kathleen and Tom Conlin of Golden Valley, MN, two sons and daughters-in-law: Ray and Margot Marron of Maple Grove, MN and Tom and Kate Marron of Apple Valley, MN, eight grandchildren, one great grandson; two brothers: Glen and Phillip, seven sisters: Janice, Carol, Linda, Bonnie, Rosie, Rita and Nancy; his aunt Rosie, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dog: Bandit. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Joan, Ray and John, and his wife Carol.
We will all greatly miss Dick and the help he has given to so many.
