Richard was born to Sophie P. (Gruhot) and Bernard D. Sumerfelt on August 11, 1953, in Marshall. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Richard graduated from Marshall High School in 1971. He has lived in the Twin Cities since the early 1970âs. Richard was employed by Social Security for 24 years until he retired. He enjoyed horror and sci-fi movies, casino gambling, word search puzzles and enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a collection of turtles, Beanie Babies, and Tigger's. He enjoyed humor and even joked with his doctors while he was ill.
Richard died on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
He is survived by his mother, Sophie (Gruhot) Sumerfelt of Marshall, brothers David of Spanaway, WA, Dennis (and Lois) of Wheaton, MN, Duane (and Gail) of Marshall, Daniel of Tucson, AZ and special friend Edward Feldt of Robbinsdale, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard D. Sumerfelt, grandparents Domicilia (Keilb) and Alexander Sumerfelt, Elizabeth (Kopolczynski) and Frank Gruhot and one nephew Clinton Sumerfelt.
