Mass of Christian Burial for Richard âDickâ Van Keulen, 86, of Ghent, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. â 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. â 10:30 a.m. at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Interment will follow the service at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.
Richard John âDickâ Van Keulen was born on March 28, 1933, in Ghent, to Hubert and Martha (Verkinderen) Van Keulen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Dick attended grade school in Ghent and graduated from Minneota High School. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. On June 24, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jean Van Overbeke at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple farmed the family farm in Ghent for 10 years. Dick worked for the Schwan Food Company for 30 years, retiring in 2000. Dick was very social and looked forward to time with friends and family. He enjoyed playing rolle bolle or having coffee with friends at the Ghent Town Hall. Dick also enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was fond of tending to his yard and vegetable garden.
Richard died on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife Jean of Ghent; son Tim (and Paula) Van Keulen of Ghent; daughters Sandy (and Jim) Nordmeyer of Dayton and Barb (and Tom) Schmitz of St. Louis Park; grandchildren Megan Van Keulen (fiancé Nick Esping), Jade (and Luke) Colby, Matt Van Keulen, Amber (and Brian) Stuart, Brooks Nordmeyer, Isaac, Emily and Olivia Schmitz; great-grandchildren Louis and Miles Stuart; siblings Lorraine (and David) Maertens and Ed (and Rose) Van Keulen; sister-in-law Lois Van Keulen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Rose Boerboom, and brothers Harold, Gregory and Jim Van Keulen.
