Ricky “Poobear” Jo Gagnon was born on July 3, 1957 in Marshall, MN to Emmett and Olivene (Maronde) Gagnon. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1975. After graduation he entered into the Marine Corps serving overseas in the Iranian conflict. After serving his country in the Marine Corps Poobear moved back to Marshall and worked as a chef at the Wooden Nickel and the Chalet. While working at the Chalet he met the love of his life Cathy Doom. The couple was married on July 25, 1987 at Holy Redeemer Church in Marshall.  Ricky later worked for SMSU until his retirement.

Ricky had many passions in life. He enjoyed taking camping trips with Cathy, target shooting, playing softball, and riding his Harley. He was a proud member of the Brotherhood Motorcycle Club whose riders shared a common vision of unity, service, and respect for one another. He was also proud of the time he spent in the Marine Corps, which led him to become involved with the VFW. He was an active member of the VFW working his way up to the rank of Commander.  Ricky loved to cook; one of his favorite dishes was “Indian Fried Bread.”  Poobear had a heart of gold and had a special place in his heart for his beloved Cathy and his nieces and nephews.

Ricky “Poobear” Jo Gagnon died unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

Poobear is survived by his wife Catherine Gagnon, sister Kim Gagnon, niece Brittany (Jeremy) Luckhardt, nephew Brandon Buysse, as well as many more nieces’ nephews and extended relatives.
