Rieber Lowell Moe was born on December 18, 1933, in Madison, SD, to Adolph and Helene (Hyland) Moe. His family moved to Adrian, where he graduated from Adrian High School. His family owned and operated the local café. On December 21, 1953, Moe enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge, Moe chose to endeavor in a new career field and attained a degree in mortuary service from Long Beach State University, Long Beach, CA. On July 6, 1956, he was united in marriage to Verna Mary Klein in Downy, CA. Moeâs career as a funeral director took him to a variety of funeral homes in California before opening his own funeral home in Los Angeles. After 20 years of funeral business and living in the hustle and bustle of the LA area, Moe and Mary decided to move the family to Graceville, Minnesota, where the family owned and operated the Red Lantern Café, which became known for its salad bar and the âgiant burger.â It was during this time he began a new career with Marshall Food Service as a sales man. Following Moeâs promotion to sales manager, the family moved to Cottonwood in 1983. After retiring from food service career, Moe worked at Antonâs, operated the Puttin` to the 50âs mini golf course and worked as a security officer at the Sioux Falls Airport. For the last 7 years, Boulder Estates was the place Moe called âHome.â Moe always looked forward to family gatherings with his kids and grandkids!
Moe passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. Survivors include Mary of Marshall; children, Denise (Rick) Castle of Redwood Falls, Margaret âPeggyâ (Larry) Lamote of Marshall, Elizabeth (Mike) Pranger of Sioux Falls, SD, Therese (Jeff) Bauer of Graceville, and Daniel (Gulia) Moe of Sandy, UT; grandchildren, Wauker, Heather, Nicholas, Arica, Tanya, Kellie, Daniel, Brittany, Shelby, Michael, Caitlyn, Samantha, Daniel Jr., Marcus, Mason; great-grandchildren, Adam, Marisa, Shyann, Jazmin, Nicholas Jr., Caiden and Caelyn, sister, Dorothy Theis of Downey, CA; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arvid and his wife Esther and Clement âBudâ and his wives, Catherine and Cynthia; brother-in-law, Elwood Theis; infant brother, Douglas Warren.
Blessed be his memory, Moe is gone but not forgotten.
