Robert Joseph Van Overbeke was born on July 12, 1917, in Marshall, to Alois and Adele (Van Huffel) in Marshall. He grew up on the family farm NW of Marshall. On August 31, 1939, he was united in marriage to Doris âMaeâ Devereaux at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. The couple farmed and raised their family North of Marshall. In 1964, they moved to Marshall. Bob worked for many years as the custodian of Holy Redeemer School. In his retirement years he also worked for the DeLanghe Family farm and as the caretaker of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. He was a multi-talented craftsman. Bob was gifted with woodworking, quilting, cooking and a variety of other hobbies. After his wife, Mae, suffered a stroke, he was a full-time caregiver to her until her death. He was very passionate about his family and greatly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed raising and training horses in his younger years.
Bob died on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Morningside Heights Nursing Home in Marshall. He is survived by his daughter, RoseAdele Turner (special friend Ed Marks), sons Daniel (and Jeanne) of Hutchinson and Randy (and Nancy) of St. Cloud, son-in-law Jim Holien of Marshall, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mae, son Mark, daughter Roberta, four brothers and three sisters.
