Robert was born on April 7, 1927 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Frank and Ann (Greuel) Runchey. He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1945 and entered the Navy. Upon discharge, he attended the College of St. Thomas and St. Paul College of Law where he obtained a law degree in 1952. That same year he married June Hert and moved to Marshall, Minnesota where he started his law practice. Bob served as the Lyon County Attorney from 1958 to 1970 while he maintained his private practice with Donald Molter. Bob was a skilled litigator and was known for his honesty and integrity. He retired from the practice of law in 1996.
His wife June died of cancer in 1984. In 1986, he married Ardella (Anderson) of Madison, Minnesota. Bob and Ardella enjoyed their home in Alamo, Texas where they danced, golfed and tutored elementary school children. He especially enjoyed tending and harvesting his fruit trees and flowers. Ardella and Bob also enjoyed traveling and spending time with their families.
Robert was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Bob died on September 30, 2007 at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center after suffering from Alzheimerâs disease.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ardella and his children and Ardellaâs children: JoAnn (David) Manke of Eagan, Minnesota; Barbara Runchey (Robert Gjorvad) of Marshall, Minnesota; Catherine Daters (William) of Eldridge, Iowa; Michael Runchey of Minneapolis, Minnesota ; Richard Runchey (Jennifer) of Springboro, Ohio; Jane Davidson (Brent) of Marshall, Minnesota; Susan Runchey Muhl (Kevin) of Watertown, South Dakota; Patrick Runchey (Jill) of Sugarland,Texas; Sara Runchey (Jim Smalley) of Ghent, Minnesota; Sharon Halse (Charles) of Elk River, Minnesota; Maureen Buytaert (John) of St. Charles, Minnesota; Terry Anderson (Rosella) of Madison, Minnesota; Janell Thomson (Dennis) of Louisberg, Minnesota; and 31 graNdchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister, his first wife, June and son, Thomas Runchey.
