Robert Alan Stoppel age 74 of Currie, MN, formerly of Glenwood, IA, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Murray County Hospice House in Slayton, MN. A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, followed by a graveside service in the Hoiland Cemetery, rural Tracy, at 3:15 PM.
Robert Alan Stoppel was born November 19, 1935 to Howard and Myrtle (Rogne-Fonseth) Stoppel in Minneapolis, MN, Hennepin County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended school in Minneapolis as a young boy. His family then moved to the Garvin, MN area and he attended Slayton Public Schools, graduating from Slayton High School in the early 1950âs. He then attended one year of training at a vocational school for heating and refrigeration.
On January 5, 1957 Bob married Sharon Schoer at the Hoiland Lutheran Church near Garvin, MN. They made their home in Garvin until 1960 when they moved to Kansas City, MO for one year, before moving to Glenwood, IA. They moved to Spring, TX in 1981 and in 1999 moved to Currie, MN where they currently resided. During these years Bob worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for about eight years, when he lived in Iowa and D&B Refrigeration for many years while living in Texas. His health resulted in an early retirement that prompted the move back to Minnesota.
Bob was a past member of the Hoiland Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, vegetable gardening, and general handyman work, whenever someone needed help with a project.
In December of 2009 Bob became a resident of the Hospice House of Murray County in Slayton, where he died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the age of 74.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon Stoppel of Currie, MN; two sons, Gregory (Nicole) Stoppel of Mineola, IA and Todd (Susan) Stoppel of Slayton, MN; seven grandchildren, Clifford, Paula, Morgan and Tim Stoppel, Kenneth Simmons, Robert and Amanda Stoppel; three great grandchildren, Lydia, Gage and Kainoa; one brother, Curtis (Kathy) Sigdestad of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Phyllis Lewis of Minneapolis, MN and Barbara Nash of St. Paul, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents and one brother, Clarence Iversen preceded him in death.
