Roger Albert Belaen was born on December 5, 1931, in Hulste, Belgium, in the Province of West Flanders. His parents were Achille Rene and Maria (DeVlaminck) Belaen. Roger came to America at the age of 21. Under the wings of his motherâs three brothers, he learned to farm. Roger was proud to be an American citizen, and he kept close watch over current events here and in Belgium. He met and married Rosell Wambeke and to this union were born seven children: Rose Marie, Roy, Robert, Rita, David, Donald and Dennis. Roger enjoyed golfing, rolle bolle, and playing cards. He supported his church and community and delivered Meals on Wheels for fourteen years. He had a very happy demeanor and will be remembered for his wit, charm and compassion for others. Roger was most passionate about spending time with family and friends including his 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He died on Monday, September 28, 2009, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Rosell, children Rose Marie Belaen of Brandt, SD, Roy (and Barbara) Belaen of Oldsmar, FL, Robert (and Peggy) Belaen of Milwaukee, WI, Rita (and Patrick) Maxwell of Milroy, MN, David (and Paula) Belaen of MinNeota, MN, Donald (and Debra) Belaen of Minneota, MN and Dennis (and Sandra) Belaen of Vesta, MN, 18 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one sister Antoinette in Belgium, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and three brothers.
