Ronald Hubert Van Keulen

Mass of Christian Burial for Ronald Van Keulen, 89, of Marshall, formerly of Ghent, will be Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall, with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment with military honors will follow the service at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery.

Ronald Hubert Van Keulen passed away March 16, 2024, at the age of 89 following a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Ronald was born to Hubert A. and Annie (Johanna Van Uden) Van Keulen on August 13, 1934. He grew up in the Ghent, Minnesota area and was a lifelong member of Saint Eloi Catholic Church. Ronnie graduated from Minneota High School in 1953. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army. After the service, he returned to Ghent and began farming, a career he was proud of and loved. He continued to help on the farm through the last year of his life.

Ronnie met the love of his life, Carole Mundahl at the Blue Moon Ballroom. He swept this city girl off her feet and they married on January 20, 1962. Together they raised a family of seven kids, including a set of triplets! Ronnie loved his children and grandchildren deeply, and was so proud of them.

Ronnie was an eternal optimist and enjoyed the simple things in life. He played rolle bolle his entire life. He helped introduce the sport to their retirement community in Donna, Texas. He even went “viral” with his instructional rolle bolle video filmed at Bit O Heaven Retirement Park.

He went on countless fishing trips, and had many “fish tales” to go along with them. He was an avid baseball fan. He played Ghent town ball for many years and was a devoted Twins fan. Ronnie enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially playing cards, beanbags, and enjoyed many travel adventures with Carole and friends including 20 plus winters in Texas.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife Carole, children Ken (Denise) Van Keulen, Cheryl (Chad) Stensrud, Pam (Roger) Hamilton, Beth (Mike) DeVlaeminck, Brian (Marni) Van Keulen, Eric (Betsy) Van Keulen, 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, brother Joe Van Keulen, sister Marion O’Neal, countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Marie, grandson Tanner John Stensrud, his parents Hubert and Annie, siblings Eugene, Betty, Pat Girard, Danny, and Elaine O’Neal, as well as many dear friends and in-laws.

We will miss him terribly, but we will honor him by living our lives, as he did, with humility, faithfulness, and gratitude.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Home Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
