Rosa Bonita (Murphy) Lehnhoff was born on May 16, 1924, in Belfast Township, Murray County, to John Edward and Rosa Mary (Holinka) Murphy. She attended country schools in districts 59 and 40 in Murray County and aslo attended St. Gabriels Catholic School in Fulda. Rosa and Eugene Lehnhoff were united in marriage on April 21, 1947, in St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Fulda. After the marriage, they farmed near Fulda until 1958 when they moved to a farm West of Balaton. In 1977, they moved to a farm South of Russell and retired on the farm in 1995. Rosa moved to the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in March, 2012. Rosa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. During the farming years, Rosa helped with all aspects of the business including chores, field work, bookkeeping or whatever needed to be done. She always took great pride in providing home cooked meals for her family, having fresh baked goods on-hand for visitors and keeping her house immaculate. Rosaâs catholic faith was an important part of her life; in recent years she was active at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Daughters.
Rosa died on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She is survived by her husband, Eugene âJackâ Lehnhoff of Marshall; children Anita (and Aaron) Rothgarber of Bethlehem, GA, David (and Ruth) Lehnhoff of Balaton, Susan (and Gary) Almhjeld of Brookings, SD, Laureen (and Randy) Thooft of Balaton; grandchildren Tonia (and Jeff) Swan, Traci Lehnhoff, Holly Almhjeld, Amanda Thooft and Casey Almhjeld; granddaughter-in-law Jill Lehnhoff; great-grandchildren Bailey Swan, Anthony Bauer, Marisa, Olivia, Kamry and Charlee Lehnhoff, Kendall Scholz, and Adrian Almhjeld; and brother Joe P. Murphy of Cathedral City, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Rosa Murphy; brothers John T. Murphy and Francis Murphy; grandsons John Mark Lehnhoff, Rustin Thooft and Kyle Lehnhoff.
