Rosie is survived by her daughters Rose Mohr and Donna Mohr Kinney (Stephen), sons Howard (Jody), Jack, and Paul, sisters Virginia Klemm and Betty Stanger, grandchildren Timothy, Alicia, Stephen, Cathleen, Laura, Shawn (Melissa), Nicole, and Susan (Jackson), and great grandchild Elizabeth.
Rosie was born in Des Moines, Iowa, where she began her married life, and where, when widowed, she completed her GED and attended business school. She worked at the Des Moines Fire Department, until her appointment as senior account clerk at City Hall in Des Moines, from which she retired at age 66. Rosie lived in Des Moines until 1991, when she moved to St Paul, MN, to be closer to her daughter Donna and grandchildren. In 2000, she moved to Boulder Estates, a senior apartment complex in Marshall, MN, close to her son Howard and his wife, Jody.
With failing health, Rosie moved to the Minneota (Minnesota) Manor, where she received excellent care from folks she regarded as a loving family.
In 1977, Rosie was named University of Iowa Mother of the Year, nominated by her daughter Donna. One paragraph from Donnaâs nomination letter in the press release of April 14, 1977, says a lot about Rosie: âMom represents all U of I mothers in two important ways. One is devotion and concern for her family and its moral character, and secondly, in that she supports and understands womenâs rights.â
Rosie will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren, and by friends, family, and former colleagues.
A memorial service will take place in the Des Moines area at a later date to be announced. A memorial stone is set aside for Rosie at the Timber Creek Cemetery, south of Marshalltown, Iowa.
Blessed be her memory.
