Shawn James Boerboom, 60, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his residence in Marshall, MN.

Shawn was born on December 11, 1962, in Marshall, to Donald and Vivian (McKay) Boerboom. Shawn was the youngest of the 7 children in the Boerboom family, and at a young age, he was given the token nickname “Toots.” Shawn grew up on the family farm east of Ghent, and loved every minute. He attended St. Eloi grade school in Ghent, followed by middle school at St. Edward in Minneota, and graduated from Minneota High School with the class of 1981. Following graduation, Shawn’s talents on the football field led to an opportunity to play football as a Golden Gopher at the University of Minnesota.

In 1991, Shawn was united in marriage to Heidi VanLuvanee. Through this marriage the two were blessed with their daughter, Payton (26), and son, Nolan (21).

Throughout his life, Shawn had a successful career as an equipment salesman for several agricultural companies, including Boerboom International, Titan Machinery, Schuneman Equipment, MachineryLink, and Environmental Tillage Systems. He was also co-owner of Consolidated Ag Services in Glenwood, MN, for many years. He was outstanding in his field, and truly loved his customers, coworkers, and the future of agriculture.

Shawn was very active in his community. He was a member of the Countryside Golf Club Board of Directors, Minneota Viking Booster Club, and Hope Lutheran Church Council. He also helped deliver Meals on Wheels to residents in Minneota.

Outside of work, Shawn was a recreational enthusiast. From his teen years on, he spent many years playing league softball with his buddies. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family at the Minneota golf course. Shawn was even fortunate enough to join the Hole-in-One Club, twice! (Three times if you count toddler Payton as a witness.) One of Shawn’s favorite pastimes was being at the lake. He loved driving his boat, especially if it involved towing a tube full of brave individuals. Many of his summer weekends were spent with his family on the Chain of Lakes in Alexandria, MN. Arrowwood and Cragun’s were his favorite destinations, but he was most fond of Lake Carlos.

Shawn was a lifetime devout Minnesota sports fan: Vikings, Twins, Gophers, Timberwolves (Timber Puppies, as he would say)--you name it, he watched! No matter how bad the beating was, he always tuned in for the next game and hoped for a successful season. He also enjoyed a relaxing Sunday afternoon watching NASCAR.

Shawn’s pride and joy were his children. He loved Payton and Nolan more than anything and was so proud of each and every one of their achievements, no matter how big or small. Shawn was their biggest (and loudest) cheerleader when on the court or field. Payton and Nolan could pinpoint where their dad was in the stands from the moment his whistle left his lips.

Most recently, Shawn enjoyed spending his time with his special friend, Dana. Together, the two were faithful sports fans, enjoyed making meals on the grill, and were local history buffs. They brought out the best in each other.

Shawn will be remembered for his warm personality, quick wit, eagerness to help others, and his famous BBQ ribs.

Shawn is survived by his children, Payton (David & Baby) Noyes of Marshall; and Nolan Boerboom of Monterey Bay, CA; siblings: Sandra Cain of Jordan, MN; Sally Miklos of Boca Raton, FL; Steve (Nancy) Boerboom of Ghent; Sam (Judy) Boerboom of Ghent; Scott (Terri) Boerboom of Ghent; Suzy (Dan) Tholen of Baxter, MN; Special Friend, Dana Miller of Tracy. Shawn is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Shawn is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Vivian Boerboom; and brother in-law Joe Cain.
