Shelba Jean Giles

Shelba J. Giles age 73 of Tracy, MN died Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Christian Alliance Church in Tracy. Visitation at the church will be one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM on Saturday. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service at the church. Interment will take place at a later date. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. Shelba Jean Giles was born June 18, 1938 to Edward and Edith (Slaven) Perryman in Kingston, AR. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended public school. She grew up in the Kingston area until the age of thirteen when her family moved to the state of Washington, where she finished her public education. After many years in Sunnyside, WA, Shelba married Kenneth Giles on September 25, 1979 in Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in Pipestone, MN and several other southwestern Minnesota communities, before retiring and moving to Tracy in 2001. Shelba was a school secretary in the Pipestone and Hutchinson, MN public schools for many years and had also been an office manager for an insurance agency while living in Washington. She attended the Christian Alliance Church in Tracy and had been active in church activities within the communities they had lived in over the years. Shelba loved children, and she and Ken did foster parenting for many years. She was a people person, who loved activities with others, also painting, traveling, playing cards and spending time with her family. Also, she loved her pets, especially her dog, Jamie. Recently, Shelba became a patient at Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the age of 73. Shelba is survived by her husband, Kenneth Giles of Tracy, MN; daughters, Jodi (Mark) Kinsey of Yakima Valley, WA and Cindy (Jim) Fjermestad of Granite Falls, MN; sons, Scott (Jenny) Hays of Hutchinson, MN and Craig (Valerie) Giles of Clarkfield, MN; thirteen grandchildren, Cody and Ashlyn Gillihan, Scotty, Shelby and Corey Hays, Eric and Denise Svoboda, Ethan and Alec Endres, Haley and Isabella Conn, Cheri Fjermestad and Shawn Giles; four great grandchildren, Leif, Josiah, Isabella and Carianna; two sisters, Kathy (Harold) Larson of Hemet, CA and Carolyn Pruitt of Lake Forest, CA; three brothers, Dwight Perryman of Seattle, WA, Ken (Joy) Perryman of Canon Falls, MN and Larry (De) Perryman of Ukiah, CA; three brothers-in-law, Roger (Janice) Giles of Salt Lake City, UT, Darell (Lois) Giles of Balaton, MN and Don (Mary) Giles of Larchwood, IA; three sisters-in-law, Colleen (Russ) Enga of St. James, MN, Carol DeWispelaere of Luverne, MN, and Barbara (Gerald) Possail of Arco, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, one son, Bill Hays and one brother-in-law, Wes Pruitt, preceded her in death.
