Steven Lawrence Kane was born on February 24, 1951, in Sauk Centre, MN, to Lawrence and Bertha (Schlicht) Kane. He grew up in West Union, MN and graduated from Sauk Centre High School. Steve then moved to Marshall to go to school at Southwest Minnesota State University. He joined the Marshall Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 20 years. He took a job with Marshall Municipal Utilities where he worked, most recently as Foreman for the Water Department, until retirement in 2010. Steve loved golfing and typically played daily at the Marshall Golf Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially creating projects for his grandson, Ben. Steve was a member of the Holy Redeemer Church choir for many years.
Steve died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at his residence in Marshall. He is survived by his son Jacob (and Amy) DeYonge of Sioux Falls, SD, grandson Benjamin Steven DeYonge, brother Patrick Kane (and Pam Acheson) of St. Cloud, MN, brother-in-law Dr. David Mayer, special friend Yvonne Girard of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Mayer.
