Sylva Margaret Schuur was born August 22, 1920 to William J. G. and Elizabeth A. (Neumann) Dierenfeld in Iowa, near Wall Lake. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended country school. At the age of six her family moved to a farm near Holland, MN and later to the Chandler, MN area. On September 2, 1941 Sylva married Gilbert Schuur and they made their home on several farms for the first five years, before moving to the Hemert Schuur farm, south of Chandler. Here they farmed for seventeen years before purchasing their own farm in 1963, east of Chandler, where they lived until retiring and moving into Chandler in 1980. She was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church and was active in Women’s Circle and taught Sunday School for ten years. Her faith was very important to her and she instilled that in her children also, as she read the Bible to them every evening after supper. Sylva enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking and time spent with her children and their families. She worked along side her husband on the farm all those years, but they really enjoyed their retirement when they moved into Chandler, and also wintering in Texas for many years. In 2005 Sylva moved to the Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton and in 2008, she became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton, where she died, Monday, January 30, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 91. Sylva is survived by her seven children; Norma (Rodger) Chambers of Richfield, MN, Lloyd Schuur of Ashby, MN, Duane Schuur of New Ulm, MN, Dale (Jacki) Schuur of Savage, MN, Betty Schuur of Bloomington, MN, Leoris (Greg) Johnson of Brooklyn Park, MN and Myron (Liz) Schuur of Burnsville, MN; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Wallace (Nell) Dierenfeld of Chandler, MN; one sister, Ruby (Henry) Kreun of Chandler, MN; three sisters-in-law, Henrietta Kluis of Edgerton, MN, Abelene Schuur of Chandler, MN and Julie Schuur of Luverne, MN; one brother-in-law, Arie Olivier of Slayton, MN; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
