Timothy John Fruin

Timothy John Fruin was born on September 19, 1952, to Duane and Marie (McGuire) Fruin.  A proud Cottonwood native, Tim was baptized at St. Clotilde Catholic Church and received First Communion and was Confirmed at St. Mary’s. He graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1970.  He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Government from St. John’s University; a place to which he remained connected throughout his life, most recently attending the big “Tommie vs. Johnnie” football game at Target field with family and other alumni.

On November 27, 1982, he was united in marriage to Lori Lewis, who remained his best friend and partner for over 35 years.  Tim and Lori had two children, daughter Katie and son Cody.  During his career, Tim drove truck for his family business, worked for Koch/Kane Industries, and McLaughlin & Schulz.  Most recently, he worked as the Transportation Manager for Turkey Valley Farms for over a decade.

Serving as mayor for ten years, there were few as enthusiastically supportive of Cottonwood.  Tim’s intelligence and thirst for knowledge was evident to all.  He was a voracious reader, especially science fiction, and famously looked forward to the daily crossword puzzle in the paper.  Tim was a loyal sports fan, following the Minnesota Vikings and local baseball teams, especially the Cottonwood Cardinals.  Most of all, Tim was passionate about his family.  He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, always the biggest fan at their activities.

Tim passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at his residence in Cottonwood.  He is survived by his wife, Lori, of Cottonwood; children Katie Fruin (and Travis) of Marshall, Cody (and Hayley) Fruin of Cottonwood; grandchildren Jocelyn, Jett, Juliana, and Weston; siblings Peg Hauge of Cottonwood, Pat (and Sean) Carmody of Marshall, Kathy Lazo of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws.
