Tommie Gene Waters was born on December 2, 1945, in Shenandoah, IA, to James and Marjorie (Funk) Waters. He grew up between Shenandoah and Westminster, CO. Tom graduated from Defiance High School in Defiance, IA. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he acquired skills that allowed him to work with electrical engineering in communities including LeSueur, Mankato, St. Peter. Most recently, he was working from home for Windings, Inc. in New Ulm. Tom was a lifelong musician. He played several instruments but specialized playing lead guitar with various bands including Snowy River and the Fabulous Full Range Band. These bands toured the Midwest and opened up for many headlining bands. Tom also enjoyed giving guitar lessons to kids and playing in local praise and worship bands. He was also a car enthusiast and enjoyed racing cars in his younger years. He also enjoyed fishing and was a movie enthusiast.
Tom died on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his children Joy (and Rick) Hornaman of Plankinton, SD, Joanie Waters-Swain of Henderson, MN, Jason Waters of Le Sueur, MN, Erin Waters of Cleveland, MN, step-daughter Taylor Swanson, grandchildren Sean, Haley, Jacob and Caleb, siblings Johnny (and Debbie) Waters of Janesville, MN and faithful companion Spike. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Geoffrey and brothers James and William.
