Vergil Bauer of Westbrook, MN, formerly of Tracy, MN died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church in Tracy. Interment will be at the Tracy City Cemetery.
Vergil Vernon Bauer was born May 24, 1926 to Arvene and Ruth (Maquire) Bauer in Tracy, MN. He was baptized on March 20, 1927 and confirmed on December 18, 1949 at what is now Tracy Lutheran Church. Vergil attended Tracy Public Schools and graduated from Tracy High School. Following his graduation Vergil enlisted in the U. S. Army and served his country during World War II. After his discharge he returned to the Tracy area where he farmed with his family.
On November 24, 1947 Vergil married Beverly Nimerfro of Westbrook, MN at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. They made their home on the family farm near Tracy. Following his wifeâs death in August of 1981, Vergil remained on the farm.
On March 8, 1984 Vergil married Jean Kapp at the St. Anthonyâs Catholic Church in Westbrook and they made their home in Westbrook. Vergil continued to farm near Tracy until the mid 1980âs and then worked part time, during the planting and harvest seasons, for Fultz Farms, his long time neighbors near Tracy. Following Jeanâs death in February of 2007 Vergil continued living in their home in Westbrook.
Vergil was a past member of the Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy and a current member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. He was also a member of the Westbrook Kiwanis Club and very active in the Westbrook Senior Center. He enjoyed getting together with his many friends for coffee and a game of cards.
Recently Vergil became a patient of the Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD , where he died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the age of 81.
Vergil is survived by one daughter, Mary Hippe of Nyrobi, Africa; one son Joel (Renee) Bauer of Phoenix, AZ; two grandsons, Aaron Hippe and Nathan (Karly) Hippe; one great grandson, Jacob Hippe; one brother, Melvin (Lois) Bauer of Winthrop, MN; four step-children, Christopher (Sharon) Kapp of Owatonna, MN Arretta Eggleston of Lakeland, MN, Barbara (Mark) Yonekawa of St. Paul, MN and John Kapp of Mankato, MN; step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends.
His first wife, Beverly, his parents, second wife, Jean, and one sister preceded him in death.
