Verna Hovland

Verna Leona Hovland was born March 22, 1915 to Louis and Sarah Anne (Severson) Hovland at the family home in Eidsvold Township, Minneota, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Hope Lutheran Church of Minneota where she was a life-long member. She attended school at District #39 graduating from the eighth grade. After completing school, she worked at the family home. After the death of her parents, she worked at the Barnesville Nursing Home and the Redwood Falls Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide. Upon retirement, she lived at Marshall, Minnesota until 1996 when she entered the Clarkfield Care Center where she resided until her death on April, 15, 2011 at the age of 96. Although she had lost most of her eyesight, she never complained and did as much as she could. She enjoyed visiting with everyone and we enjoyed visiting with her. Verna is survived by her brothers; Milo Hovland, Dudley (Marie)Hovland, and Darrell(Audrey)Hovland, sisters, Lila (Bob)Smith and Arlene Tollefson, and sister-in-law, Janice Hovland and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sallie (Fred)Tessmer, brothers, Lester (Gunhild)Hovland, Norman (Edythe) Hovland, Alvin (Edna)Hovland, Donovan and Earl Hovland. Verna will be greatly missed.
