Vernon A. Anderson age 84, formerly of Balaton, MN died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at his home in Slayton, MN. Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Skandia Evangelical Free Church in Skandia Township, south of Balaton. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Skandia Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.
Vernon Arvid Anderson was born February 6, 1924 to France and Mathilda (Peterson) Anderson in Skandia Township, Murray County, MN. As a young boy he attended country school and worked on the farm with his family.
On July 22, 1949 Vernon married Bernice Knutson at the Church of Christ in Tracy, MN and they made their home on a farm south of Balaton, MN. He farmed there for fifty three years before retiring to Slayton in 2002.
Vernon was a member of the Skandia Evangelical Free Church in Skandia Township and gave his life to Christ in 1958. Over the years he has been very active in his church, serving on the church board in several positions. He also was on the Skandia Cemetery Board. As a young man he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing and carpentry work on the farm. What he most cherished was his family, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Vernon died, surrounded by his loving family, at his home in Slayton at the age of 84.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Bernice of Slayton, MN; one daughter, Jackie (Neil) Dennin of Litchfield, MN; three sons, Larry Anderson of North Branch, MN, Dale (Lou) Anderson of Balaton, MN and Wayne Anderson of Hutchinson, MN; eight grandchildren, Loren (Sandy) Dennin, Scott (Deb) Dennin, Adrian (Dave) Rogers, Cortney (Ben) Smith, Jason (Angela) Anderson, Jessie, Amanda and Nathan Anderson; eight great grandchildren, Kalli, Kaitlyn, and Keagen Anderson, Connor and Ava Dennin, Camryn and Rylee Dennin and Aiden Anderson; two brothers, Leon Anderson of Balaton, MN and Selmer (Macky) Anderson of Litchfield, MN; three sisters, Lou Lewis of Morris, MN, Pearl Rupp of Pipestone, MN, and Opal Jensen of Greeley, CO; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, one sister-in-law, Juell Anderson and three brothers-in-law, Ray Lewis, Clarence Rupp and Wendell Jensen preceded him in death.
