Veronica (Racette) Van Hauwaert was born to Frederick and Elizabeth (Hirmer) Racette on January 14th, 1917. She attended school in Green Valley. She graduated from Stuart School of Hairstyling in 1954. After graduation, she worked as a hair stylist in Marshall. She was united in marriage to Julius Van Hauwaert on January 13th, 1963, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Julius was a farmhand working for various farmers and together they raised one son, Daniel. Veronica, more fondly known as Vernie, spent many years volunteering at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was in charge of planning the funeral dinners at Carlin Hall and she was an active member of the Catholic Daughters. Vernie enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and making quilts for those in need and enjoyed spending time with family, especially her two grandchildren. She spent the last years of her life at the Minneota Manor and was loved by many of the staff who worked with her.
Vernie died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her son, Dan (and Mary) Van Hauwaert, grandchildren Ethan and Kaylee Van Hauwaert of Marshall, and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Julius, brothers Frederick and Ernest and sister, Gertrude.
