Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent Cauwels, 86, of Marshall will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 p.m. â 1:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Military Honors provided by U.S. American Legion Post 113 of Marshall. Masks are required at all indoor events and social distancing guidelines will be followed. Vincent Maurice Cauwels was born on April 21, 1934, in Marshall, to Edward and Mary (Doom) Cauwels. He grew up and attended school in Marshall. Vincent served in the U.S. Army from 1955 â 1957. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm in Marshall. On May 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Patricia Benson. The couple operated a dairy farm, raised beef cattle and pigs with his father, Ed. In the mid-1980s, Vincent went to work for Swift Company. He worked at this business as they changed to Heartland, Jennie-O and Turkey Valley, retiring at age 80. Vincent enjoyed tinkering with his automobiles and equipment. He enjoyed attending local auctions and was especially fond of Oliver Tractors and his 1957 John Deer 1010. Vincent collected model cars, coffee cups and other items.
Vincent died on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at his home in Marshall, under the care of Avera Home Hospice. He is survived by his children Debbie (and Kenny) Carson of Winnebego, MN, Connie (and David) Kerkaert of Watkins, MN, Brad Cauwels of Marshall, Jeffrey Cauwels of Marshall, Sharon (and Dave) Dillon of Seaforth, Barbara Baack (and Dan Olson) of Green Isle, MN, Janet (and William) Flood of Porter, grandchildren Johnathan Paonessa and Dominick (and Jessica) Paonessa; Jayson Kerkaert; JoAnn Fish, Jill Umana, Justin Kerkaert, Jesse (and Angie) Cauwels, Jeremy (and Callie) Cauwels, Joshua Cauwels and Christopher Cauwels, Matthew (and Erin) Dillon, Angela (and Adam) Roeder, Zach Baack, Alex Baack, Aleia Larsen (and Thomas), William Flood (and Tayla); great-grandchildren Dominick and Juliet Paonessa; Billy and Charlie Fish; Jaylah and Maddie Umana and Aubrey Muehlbauer; Maddy, Montana and Emmy Cauwels; Joseph Cauwels; Lucille, Ophelia Cauwels; Joesph Dillon; Violet Roeder. Also survived by siblings Evelyn Hansen, Agnes (and Clarence) Weiring, Marie (and Don) Bottleberghe, Dorothy Eischens (and Al), Joe (and Doris) Cauwels, Theresa (and Morgan) Schuester, Lucille (and Jack) Laslo and Loretta Anderson, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Pat and brother Bernard, great-grandson Ernest Cauwels and brother-in-law Omer Eischens.
