Violet Marie (Mahling) Doom was born on November 28, 1924, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Walter and Kathryn (Fredricks) Mahling. At a young age, Violet moved with her family to the Lynd Area where she attended school. On April 11, 1945, she was united in marriage to Alois (Pete) Doom at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family in Stanley Township. After Aloisâ death in 1993, Violet moved into Marshall in 1994. She loved to cook and bake, and no one who visited the farm left without lunch or a meal. Violet enjoyed her garden, flowers, wood carving, sewing, quilting and birds. She received the WCCO Good Neighbor Award for her community involvement. She was a Board Member and was very active with the Marshall Food Shelf. She was also active with Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and served on the Funeral Lunch Committee.
Violet died on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Tyler Hospital after a recurrence of cancer. She is survived by her sons Thomas (Cheri) of Albany, MN, and Charles (Ingrid) of Brandon, SD, and Special Friend Hector Van Acker of Marshall, Thomasâ Family Karol Sebastian of Suffolk, VA, Karen Doom of Montgomery, MN, Kristen Moonen of Albany, MN, Peter (Andrea) of Hanover and four great-grandchildren, Charlesâ family of Patrick (Leah) Doom of Sioux Falls, SD, Christopher (Angel) Doom of Avon, SD, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
