Violet Verna (Villmow) Vandevoorde was born on the family farm near Delmont, SD, to Carl and Johanna (Koth) Villmow. She was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Parkston, SD. On October 14, 1945, Violet was united in marriage to Archie Vandevoorde at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall. The couple made their home in Marshall and Violet worked at jobs including as a waitress, for Swifts, Weiners and at West Side Elementary. Violet enjoyed gardening, drawing, especially horses, and painting country scenes with lots of wildlife. For the last 12 years, Violet has been living at the Minneota Manor. She died on Friday, September 27, 2013, at the Manor.
Survivors include daughter Shirley Vandevoorde of Marshall, Debbie (and Brian) Waller of Granite Falls, grandchildren Nathan Waller of Hastings and Jon (and Jenny) Waller of Granite Falls, great-grandchildren Charlie and twins Laila and Layton, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Archie and siblings Lillian, Lawrence, Nelda and Jane.
