Virginia Clara Foley

Virginia C. Foley age 87 of Tracy, MN, formerly of Slayton, MN, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Sanford-Tracy Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, July 22, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a rosary at 4:00 PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Tracy, followed by a luncheon served in the church social hall. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. The family requests memorials be given to either, Tracy Public Library, Tracy Tornado Tree Memorial or St. Mary's Catholic Church. Virginia Clara Foley was born April 6, 1926 to John and Elizabeth (Wester) Schons in Tracy, MN, Lyon County. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. She grew up on a farm near Amiret, MN and attended Country School District #36 before attending Tracy Public Schools, Graduating from Tracy High School in 1943. As a young woman she worked in the high school office. On January 22, 1945 Virginia married Jim Foley at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and they made their home on farms in the Tracy, Currie and Dovray areas, before moving to a farm near Slayton, MN in 1963. They later moved into Slayton and then to Tracy, MN in 2010. Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her family as a wonderful housewife, mother and grandmother. Both her church and her community were important to her. She was a current member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy and a past member of St. Ann’s in Slayton, where she served as communion minister for twenty years, and was a member of the Catholic Church Women. In the community she served on the Slayton Library board and the Prairie View board. She and her husband also helped with setting up many auction sales. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, dancing, baking fresh bread for her family, especially answering K-Joe trivia on the morning program, discussing politics, music and singing. Also, she enjoyed going to rummage sales looking for antiques and collectables and reselling them. However, her greatest love was spending time with her children and their families. On Tuesday, July 16, 2013 Virginia died, surrounded by her loving family, at Sanford-Tracy Medical Center at the age of 87. Virginia is survived by her husband of sixty eight years, Jim Foley of Tracy, MN; two sons, Mike (Jannie) Foley of Springdale, AR and Jerry (Kate) Foley of Nisswa, MN; six daughters, Jeanine (Jim) Vandendriessche of Tracy, MN, Peggy (John) Hubley of Jeffers, MN, Ann (Carlos) Cortez of Bulverde, TX, Joan (Jackie) Wright of Cave Springs, AR, Katie Sunsdahl of Champlin, MN and Patrice (Chad) Platt of Avoca, MN; nineteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; one sister, Anna Mae Breczinski of Marshall, MN; three sisters-in-law, Terry Foley of Minneapolis, MN, Mary Lou Schons of Worthington, MN and Phyllis Tanghe of Marshall, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, John and Elizabeth Schons, one infant daughter, Barbara, two infant grandchildren, four sisters, Evelyn Kosse, Agnes Darger, Edith Foley, and Bertha Paradis, six brothers, Leo, Paul, Johnny, Lawrence, Herb and Irvin Schons preceded her in death. The family requests that memorials be given to either, Tracy Library, Tracy Tornado Tree Memorial or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
