Edgar Wallace Sherman was born on December 19, 1930, at home in Franklin, MN, to Edgar and Beatrice (Sather) Sherman. He grew up and attended school in Franklin. Wally was drafted into the U.S. Army and served stateside during the Korean War. He completed boot camp at Ft. Bliss, TX and was then stationed in Detroit, MI. While in Detroit, he met his future wife, Charlotte Fagg. After his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Franklin, MN. To this union were born children Beatrice, DeAnna, Dale and Reinhart. In 1969, the family moved to Balaton to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning a farm. In this wonderful family environment, their foster daughter joined them in 1972. Wally was passionate about farming. He was honored that his son, Dale, joined the family farm operation after completing his military service. His favorite pastime was sitting nightly with Dale at the picture window in the shed having a cold one and âwatching the corn grow.â While a full dayâs work was always important, Wally always found the time for a cup of coffee at the Playatorium in Balaton, Happy Chef in Marshall, or, in his later years, Perkins. While never a big one to splurge, the trips he took to Las Vegas were always the highlight of his year. He was an active and committed member of the Masons, American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church. In his later years, Wally lived in Marshall and for a short time was cared for at the Colonial Manor of Balaton.
Wally died on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Colonial Manor. He is survived by his children Beatrice (and Chris) Olson of Marshall, DeAnna (and Gary) Sandquist of Minnetrista, MN, Reinhart (and Johnny) Sherman of Timberon, NM, daughter-in-law Darleen Sherman of Balaton, foster daughter Sara Connelly of Marshall, grandchildren Dawn, Ashley, Danielle, Ryan, DeziRae, Martin, Jessie, Justin and Channel, Holly, Sandy, Matt; great-grandchildren Izak, Karter, Austin, Kaisin, Mia, Jett and Evonn, brother Robert (and Shirley) Sherman of Bemidji, MN, sister-in-law Judy Sherman of Litchfield and the beloved mother of his children, Charlotte Sherman of Franklin, and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Beatrice Sherman, brother Raymond and son Dale Wallace Sherman.
