William Edward Nelson

d. April 21, 2021

William Edward Nelson was born in Marshall on August 8, 1955. He graduated from Balaton High School in 1973 and attended the University of Minnesota-Morris before returning home to farm with his father. Bill loved playing, coaching and watching sports. He had an uncanny memory when it came to reliving special moments throughout his life. Whether it was his high school games with life-long friends, coaching a championship basketball team, laughing about the Brewers softball days or recalling each stroke in a golf tournament, he cherished the memories and the friends he made during those times. He coached kids in basketball for many years. While he was proud of the many championship medals, the life-long relationships developed with his players was even more special to him. Bill was a wonderful father. He loved his kids and always supported them in their endeavors, whether it was building the world’s most rickety tree house or cheering them on at their events. Bill was a farmer his entire life and decided many years ago that conservation of land was an important legacy that he could leave for generations to come. He enjoyed taking drives with his truck full of dogs, especially his beloved Tara Belle, and watching the wildlife thrive on the land he’d dedicated so much of his life to. Bill lived for his grandchildren, Sawyer, Lane, and Case. They were truly the light of his life and he spent much of the last four years rocking babies and helping raise them (and giving them way too much candy and pop). He is survived by his wife Cathy, his daughter Tessa (Klint) Kubiak and son, Drew Nelson. Parents Lennen and Doris Nelson. Mother-in- law, Gwen Boyd. Grandchildren , Sawer, Lane and Case Kubiak, brothers Mike (Cindy) Nelson, Jon (Carleen) Sister Cindy (Jim) Logue and Lori (Jeff) Swift. Brother-in-law Bill Boyd, Sister-in-laws Liz (Mike) Struve, Joey (Curt) Vogt and Susan (Jeff) Minnaert. He was preceded in death by son, Trevor and nephew, Ryan Logue, Father-in-law Frank Boyd,brother-in-law, John Boyd.
