Willis Andrew Gillund was born on November 7, 1926, in Slayton, to Andrew and Alma (Helgeson) Gillund. He started attending school in Garvin. As a child, he moved with his family to Marshall where he continued his education. Willis was inducted into the U.S. Army just after World War II. He served for 13 months overseas. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Marshall. On September 16, 1951, he was united in marriage to Verlyn Beadles. The couple made their home and raised their daughters in Marshall. Willis worked for Cattoor Oil Company for 50 years. Towards the end of his career, he began driving school bus and continued this job until 2002. Willis was a volunteer fireman from 1948 â 1978. He was proud of his service and proud to be the oldest living fireman. He was also very fond of playing cards.
Willis died on Monday, September 08, 2014, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. He is survived by his daughters Cindy (and Mike) Koerner of Minneapolis, Karen (and Keith) Christopherson of Coon Rapids, five grandchildren, one great-grandson, sister Betty (and Ed) Edmundson of St. Louis Park, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
