Wilma Jean Schoolmeester age 76 of Chandler, MN died December 7, 2008 at The Cottage Hospice House in Luverne, MN. Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler. Visitation for the family will begin at 5:00 PM and the public from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel in Chandler and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery at 12:30 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2008 prior to the service. Any who wish to attend the burial may join the family at the cemetery at that time. The Chandler Funeral Association of Chandler is handling the arrangements.
Wilma Jean Schoolmeester was born April 28, 1932 to Evert and Martha (Tinklenberg) DeVries on a farm near Edgerton, MN, Pipestone County. She was baptized and professed her faith in the First Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton and attended Edgerton Christian School. She finished high school at the Western Christian School in Hull, IA, graduating in 1950. Wilma then attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI for Teacherâs Training and returned to Minnesota to teach school in Prinsburg, MN.
On June 9, 1953 Wilma married Les Schoolmeester in Edgerton and they made their home for a short time on her familyâs farm near Edgerton. They then moved to a farm outside of Chandler, MN where they lived for 55 years, until in October of 2008, when they moved into Chandler. Wilma also taught school in the Edgerton Christian School and later the Chandler Christian School.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler and was active in her church as a past Sunday school teacher, choir member, Sunshine Guild and Banner Committee. She was also active in Mothers Club, the SW Christian Circle and served as a member of the Board for Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. Wilma enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, both vegetable and flowers, quilting, wintering in Texas with her husband, and spending time with her grandkids. She shared her love for family, church, school, and community by making many quilts, cakes, banners and so much more for others. Wilma will also be lovingly remembered as a great listener to others, with a kind, gentle soul.
In November of 2008 Wilma became a resident of The Cottage hospice house in Luverne, MN, where she died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the age of 76.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Les Schoolmeester of Chandler, MN; three daughters, LuAnn (Arwin) Spronk of Edgerton, MN, Darla (Fred) Koelewyn of Plano, TX and Lorna (Jeff) Hulstein of Chandler, MN; two sons, Glen (LeAnne) Schoolmeester of Chandler, MN and Dean (Wendy) Schoolmeester of Pipestone, MN; nineteen grandchildren; two great grandchildrten; four sisters, Alvina Schoolmeester of Edgerton, MN, Helen (Jerry) DeStigter of LeMars, IA, Linda (Jack) Northouse of Freeport, MI and Donna Kortman of Grand Rapids, MI; two brothers, Albertus (Loureen) DeVries of Chino, CA and LeRoy (Jean) DeVries of Middleville, MI; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Her parents, Evert and Martha, in-laws, Charles and Mae Schoolmeester, step-mother-in-law, Vena Schoolmeester, and brother-in-law, Orv Schoolmeester preceded her in death.
