Wynston Eugene Boe was born on August 27, 1931, in Wahpeton, ND, to Alvin and Evelyn (Evenson) Boe. As a young child, he moved with his family to Hanley Falls where he grew up and graduated from Hanley Falls High School. Wynston attended school in Mankato and Gustavos Adolphus. On May 5, 1951, he was united in marriage to Arla Anderson in Hazel Run. Wynston was a talented baseball player and played for many town-ball teams including Granite Falls, Ghent, Cottonwood and Fairmont. He later coached the Cottonwood Cardinals. In 1969, the family moved to Minneota. Wynston worked at the local bank for a time and managed the Countryside Golf Club for 15 years. In the mid-1990s, the open tournament was re-named the Wynston Boe Annual Open Tournament. Wynston was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed following all sorts of sports on television and the radio. He was especially fond of following the Minneota Vikings and his grandchildren in their activities. He also enjoyed spending time with friends over coffee at the Roundup.
Wynston died peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2014, with his family by his side at his residence in Minneota. He is survived by his wife, Arla, of Minneota, daughter Wendy Larson of Minneota, Sheree Obe of Minneota, Brian Boe of Chandler, AZ, Pamela (and Mike) Hennen of Minneota, Robin (and Steve) Traen of Champlin, MN, grandchildren Jesse (and Brandi) Larson, great-grandchildren Tolan and Evan, Alisha (and Jonathan) Gallmeier, Breanne Larson and fiancé Steve McCullar, Travis Obe, Tenille Obe, Macy Boe, Lucy Boe, Brandon (and Angie) Hennen, great-grandchildren Dakoda, Nevaeh and Braxton, Cassi (and Matt) Hodder, great-granddaughter Charlotte, Hayley (and Cody) Fruin, Jake (and Bridget) Traen, great-grandson Flynn, and Faith Traen, brother Kim Boe of Cottonwood, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sons-in-law Paul Larson and Randy Obe and grandson Taylor Obe.
